Harford Street Centre

Offices for East Thames Homes and London Borough of Tower Hamlets

Built in 2004 Harford Street Centre was constructed as part of a major development at Harford Street. The development consisted of 532 affordable housing units comprising 8 blocks of 4 storey flats and 2 & 3 storey terraced housing.

Located on the site of a former gasworks and adjacent to the Regents Canal section of the Grand Union Canal, the Centre was originally built as part of the Community facilities that supported the scheme such as a meeting hall, Primary Healthcare Trust Surgery, Dental Surgery, Pharmacy and City Gateway.

The Harford Street Centre is currently undergoing a major refurbishment to provide office space for both East Thames Homes and the London Borough Of Tower Hamlets.

Works include infilling of a double height space at the eastern end of the building to improve the building security by preventing open access between the ground and first floors. This will also increase the available floor area for the office space above.

This in turn involves the removal of a central stair core and the addition of an external fire escape to ensure regulatory compliance. Additional ventilation to the plant room is also required.
