Manston Airport

A new customs building using metal fibre reinforced concrete

Tully De'Ath have been involved in six projects at London Manston Airport. We have provided civil and structural services covering runway drainage, passenger car parks, The Terminal Building, Control Tower and a new Customs building.

The new Customs facility consists of a new steel framed building housing food quarantine facilities and weigh bridges for imported produce.

' On the 'airside' of the building the standing aprons needed extra modifications...'

The floor design used metal fibre reinforced concrete with post sawn movement joints. This process allowed for a thinner floor that could be cast faster than a traditional mesh reinforced floor. The result was a high-quality and cost effective industrial floor with fewer movement joints and larger bays.

On the 'airside' of the building the standing aprons needed extra modifications along with significant changes to the drainage and service routes.
